Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary

Located on the Goa - Karnataka border, the Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary is the second biggest wildlife reserve in Goa. Established in the year 1969, the Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary occupies an area of 85.65 sq. km.it is Goa's second biggest wildlife sanctuary.

Cotigao is home to a wide range of wildlife and also a range of forests Tree. You can find a variety of animals here that include two species of Monkey, Wild Boar, Gaur, Gazelles, Sloth Bears, Porcupines, Hyenas, Langur, Bison, Deer etc.

Birds like the Rufus Woodpecker, white-eyed eagle and the Malabar crested eagle constitute the avian life that thrives here.


There are six watchtowers in the sanctuary. Also there is one 'tree top', it is situated about 20 metres high on a tree overlooking a waterhole. The Talpona river stroll through the thick plant life and serves as the perennial water source for the sanctuary.

Best time to visit the wildlife are early in the morning and evening. you will be required to arrange your own vehicle to visit the sanctuary, as the Forest Department provides no vehicles.it is advisable to bring your own food and drinks, as these facilities are not easily available.
