MallikaArjun Temple |
The ancient temple of Shri Mallikarjun is located near the small village of Sristhal, in the southernmost taluka of Canacona. Sristhal is about 5 km drive away from the taluka headquarters of Chaudi which is about 75 kms from Panaji. The temple lies in an delightful location in a valley, completely surrounded by blue mountains and greenery.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Mallikarjun, an manifestation of Lord Shiva. Legend has it that the location of the temple was the place where Lord Shiva integrated with his wife Parvati after a long period of separation. |

The exclusive characteristic of the temple building is as gathering of gracefully carved wooden pillars inside the temple building. The six pillars in the mandap are decorated with scenes from the Puranas and epic of Mahabharata. Sophisticatedly carved shadow of dwarpals (doorkeeper) stand guard on either side of the door leading to the inner chamber of the MallikaArjun Temple.
