Sindhudurgh Fort

The name of the fort is given to the Sindhudurg district. Tourist from all over the world visit through out the year to see this Maratha glory.

The fort is a classic example of illusionary architecture and shows the brilliance of Shivaji. The entrance door of the fort is built in such a way that it merges among the walls. No one can really make out where the entrance until observed closely.

The fort was built with the help of huge rocks on the Kurte Island which amazes people & one appreciates imaginative power of Shivaji. Outer zigzag wall built in a such a way that if the enemy would come to attack it would be visible from any side so that troops inside the fort could fire their guns and cannons effectively and humble the enemy .

The fort itself is very extensive. The towers of the fort are generally outstanding semi circles with fine embrasures for canons.
